Purpose of the role

The Director of Paid Media is responsible for overseeing all paid digital campaign activity and project management across agency accounts, with an emphasis on directly servicing and supporting top revenue drivers in the US. This individual will act as the lead on demand generation and awareness paid social programs, providing strategic planning, guidance, and oversight of all deliverables as needed. S/he will be held responsible for identifying client campaign goals and objectives, translating those into relevant strategic plans, and enabling team members to execute across a variety of necessary mediums. This includes development and implementation of consistent reporting processes, planning documents, and data-driven tracking to ensure revenue-driving results.

Key responsibilities and tasks

Client Management

  • Assists the Vice President with management of clients and projects with an emphasis on demand generation programs
  • Regularly offers strategic advice and recommendations to clients and team members regarding strategy, tactics, and new business opportunities (including across existing accounts)
  • Establishes and maintains primary relationships with clients, establishing self and LEWIS Pulse as an invaluable long-term partner for paid media services
  • Ensures deadlines and service agreements are met consistently across internal teams; accurately communicates and ensures delivery of services to clients
  • Participates in the business development process by supporting with pitch preparation and research, primarily related to paid social programs
  • Responds in a timely manner (24 hours) to client requests and directives

Digital / Paid social media

  • Provides paid social media strategic guidance, as well as execution and management of related digital campaigns
  • Oversees development of paid social plans that include strategic recommendations on budget, channels/platforms, targeting tactics, content and assets, etc.
  • Partners with PR account servicing, when appropriate, to develop compelling and impactful content and integrated campaigns for both current and prospective clients
  • Contributes to client growth and impact across the full spectrum of paid social media channels including, but not limited to, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Instagram (Google / Bing a plus, not required)
  • Refines methodologies in paid social media measurement and reporting of ROI
  • Provides feedback and best practice guidance around ad copy and creative to account servicing team members
  • Pitches additional digital content including infographics, animations and video to support written content and client aims, where possible
  • Keeps abreast of paid social and other digital marketing trends and maintains close relationships with vendor representatives
  • Proven ability to recommend and implement account-based marketing campaigns across social platforms
  • Strong familiarity with retargeting tactics and pixel implementation
  • Knowledge of in-house marketing stack tools a plus (Salesforce, Marketo, Eloqua)

Team working and development

  • Strong project management skills with ability to “roll up sleeves” and execute when needed (including ad content development, cross-team project management, reporting, etc.)
  • Supports leadership with responsibility for his/her direct account team, including coaching, supervision, assessment and reviews of direct reports

  • Sets strategic team objectives on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Defines client objectives and sets standards of excellence for all client activity, driving commitment across all levels of the team
  • Monitors team activity levels against budget, increasing fees and negotiating with clients and suppliers where necessary
  • Plays a leading role in the new business process as an active member on pitch teams, delivering credible solutions to new business challenges with a slant on paid media opportunities and campaigns
  • Acts as leader in guiding colleagues on how to best manage paid campaigns and projects
  • Acts as a respected line manager, working closely with line reports to maximize strengths, improve weaknesses and support career development

Reporting and analysis

  • Ensures that all activity and results are reported back to the client, acting as ‘final line of defense’ to provide insight and analysis across all aspects of an account
  • Communicates account performance internally (account reviews) and provides regular strategic advice to clients based on measurable analytics
  • Ensures accurate budget allocation across all paid campaigns; promptly implements and manages internal finance processes to ensure compliance
  • Provides detailed reports to the senior management team on request


  • Supports the agency on ad hoc initiatives and projects concerning paid media
  • Takes a proactive role in promoting the LEWIS brand, its work, identity and values
  • Supports the HR / talent team by promoting both internal and external opportunities at LEWIS across social media and via the referral scheme
  • Contributes and supports the continuous improvement of systems, practices and policies
  • Drives financial process, including invoice approvals, budget management and reconciliation, and vendor insertion order process.

About you

  • 5-7 years’ client facing digital and paid social media experience
  • 2-3 years’ direct management experience
  • Expert understanding of the digital / paid social industry and related platforms
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to plan, prioritize, and delegate
  • Ability to provide data-driven strategies and recommendations in client-facing situations
  • Acute attention to detail, comfortable managing and analyzing large sets of data to reach actionable insights
  • Self-motivated, ability to work autonomously
  • Calmness under pressure and ability to achieve tight deadlines
  • Ability to interact confidently with clients at a senior level
  • Ability to troubleshoot team and client problem areas – and suggest a remedial course of action
  • Creative thinking and an open minded approach
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proven competency in managing a varied workload
