Purpose of the role

The New Business Manager (NBM) plays a strategic role in the identification, management and execution of new business activity. The focus of this role is to drive and increase new business opportunities for LEWIS by identifying and proactively approaching potential prospects. The NBM generates leads, develop pitches and ultimately, secures new clients. This person takes a lead role in representing the business at conferences and networking events.

Key responsibilities and tasks

New Business

  • Supports the regional/office leader in the new business process, playing a crucial role in selling LEWIS credentials throughout the tender process
  • Works closely with the Business Development Director and Global Marketing Team to develop compelling content and events to drive lead generation and engagement
  • Understands and capitalises on the unique selling points of LEWIS and is able to leverage these against competitor offerings
  • Works with the office leader to identify target businesses and utilises on and offline networks to establish connections with key decision makers and budget holders
  • Develops and maintains a map of relevant businesses and organisations, making use of this knowledge to create targeted campaigns and maximise the impact of approaches
  • Maintains an accurate database of prospects
  • Generates, identifies and nurtures new business prospects
  • Identifies and drives cascade opportunities between practices/services and within the LEWIS and LEWIS+ network
  • Writes and compiles compelling credentials and RFI and RFP responses (within deadline) with the aim of securing pitch opportunities
  • Puts in place and monitors pitch schedules to ensure that the pitch process is on track and deadlines are met
  • Works in conjunction with the global marketing team to promote LEWIS as leading provider of integrated communications services
  • Produces regular, accurate and comprehensive reports on new business activity and results

Digital / Social Media

  • Actively promotes the integration of digital and creative product solutions to new clients, developing the uptake of services offered by LEWIS
  • Works collaboratively to increase the selling of digital services
  • Uses social media to recognise industry trends and proactively promote new tools, solutions and processes to continuously evolve and optimise selling opportunities for LEWIS services

Team working and development

  • Ensures personal and deliverable objectives are met on an on-going basis
  • Works closely with line manager to maximise own strengths, improve weaknesses and support individual and team career development
  • Supports with the training of graduates and interns wherever possible
  • Regularly attends LEWIS training sessions and daily press briefings to enhance skills and develop knowledge


  • Supports training sessions where relevant, with a view to maximising opportunities to expand team skills and grow revenues
  • Takes a proactive role in promoting the LEWIS brand, its identity, values and work
  • Supports the HR / talent team by promoting, both internally and externally, opportunities at LEWIS across social media and via the referral scheme
  • Maintains a detailed and up-to-date knowledge of industry (competitors’ and clients’) activities
  • Overall, acts as a guardian of best practice

About you

  • Demonstrable success at securing new business
  • Highly commercial, with a proven track record of commercially impacting a business via lead generation and strategic client consultancy
  • Relevant experience of working in a B2B, corporate, consumer or digital communications agency environment
  • Has a solid understanding of the wider communications and marketing industry
  • Well versed in social media and the integrated selling of digital marketing within a wider communications context
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
